the clipper stad amsterdam

The Clipper Stad Amsterdam was commissioned by the municipality of Amsterdam, aldermann Edgar Peer and founder of Randstad, Frits Goldschmeding. The modern `extreme` Clipper was built on historic lines as a tribute to the quick and nimble clippers of the 19th century.

The initiative originated to make important contributions to the lives of the young and unemployed and to the school leavers by offering them valuable training and work experience. To this day, the ship is still used to train young people in navigational skills.

Of the overall construction time, estimated at 200,000 hours, some 35,000 man hours were spent on the hull. At this stage, approx 40 unemployed persons and school leavers worked on the project.
